But insignificance is a choice reserved but to the mindless, the careless and the dead. For us who have donned the Full Dress Coat with the shiniest 34 buttons once upon a time, choosing relevance in the face of age and youth’s ridicule is a no brainer.
Thus the thecorpsmag.com. No, this is not just about nostalgia and the “glory days”. This is not just about the memories, the faded laughters and smiles, not even the bitter “what-could-have-beens”. This is about today and how our voices, our thoughts, our convictions can try to forge the future. Yes, tomorrow does not belong to us anymore. But because of such, the more it is imperative for us to attempt to leave what we found a better place.
The Corps Magazine had been the voice of the Cadet Corps, Armed Forces of the Philippines. It was the vehicle of our most truthful confessions, the vessel of our most ardent aspirations, the testament of our purest ideas, the depository of the rhymes and reasons as bequeathed by the mountains, the pine trees and the majestic sun. After Fort Del Pilar, we moved on not realizing the void it left on our being. Until somebody suggested to resurrect what we treasure. The possibility stirred our hearts and imaginations and today, January 1st, 2017, we are young again with all engines running.
The corpsmag.com is alive!
It will be the height of presumption if we, the staff, will claim excellence, continuity and unparalleled commitment. Still the desire to give our best is never stronger.
It is hoped that we will be guided by the three tenets written in stone: Courage. Integrity. Loyalty. It is hoped that when we are running out of impetus and inspiration, a spark will come our way to kindle the fire within. It is hoped that just the mere fact that we are being read and that our ideas are considered are more than enough encouragement. It is hoped that we will make you feel beyond the superficial, question your beliefs, unsettle your convictions and together, we will find a better way. It is hoped that when the last period or question mark ends our piece and we sign our names, it is truth we have imparted and that we stayed honest to ourselves. It is hoped that we will be kind “with charity for all and malice towards none.”
And we pray to the Benevolent God to watch our undertaking and control our egos that we may pursue the very reason of why we are doing this.
In all humility, like the Adjutant trotting to make his announcements, we call you to attention.
