In Lascanas much ballyhooed saintly turn around and mea culpa, Trillanes’ hand is more than apparent, it is the one pulling the strings. In the same way he and De Liema presented Matobato who made the senate investigation a mockery of his lies and deceit, Trillanes presented Lascanas as the epitome of truth and salvation. The questions that echo from PMA to the Senate floor are, how low has he stooped? What quagmire of lies, self promotion and selfish ambition has he not wallowed in? What is the tag price of his soul?
In the Senate inquiry not too long ago, Trillanes not only gave Lascanas a rat’s shit of credibility. He despised his testimony to that of a watch’s insignificant ticking, claiming one’s integrity must be measured in the simplest of answers. To Trillanes then, Lascanas was just an evil fool out to protect Duterte at all cost. One he tried to destroy completely.
More than Lascanas’ turn around and his new version of “truth”, these new revelations focus on Trillanes’ intentions. A PMAyer, a cadet chairman of the Honor Committee and a Senator sworn to uphold the law, he not only shamed himself but the institutions he is a part of. For how can he present Lascanas as truthful after what he alleged on the senate floor? How can Trillanes in clear conscience tolerate and even coddle who he claimed was an evil liar?
Credibility, it is said is a porcelain glass. Once broken, nothing can bring it back. Those who despised and disbelieved Lascanas in the senate hearing before have no right to trumpet him now as truthful. Such not only speaks of hypocrisy, it assumes that the Filipino people are stupid and unthinking. An assumption with grave consequences.
There is a venue for such allegations, if indeed they are the truth. Heinous crimes must be prosecuted in a court of law and justice must be meted out. Heinous crimes are not for press conferences and teledramas to titillate and entertain. As a senator and one who must uphold the law, Trillanes must know that. And he is duty bound to see to it that justice is served.
As a senator, as a public servant, as a PMAyer, as a man. Is he?
